Fibonacci Retracement Calculator (Forex Levels and Extensions)
Use this free Fibonacci calculator to get the retracement levels (23.6%, 38.2%, 50%, 61.8%, 78.6%) and extension targets (127.2%, 161.8%, 261.8%) for any forex swing. Enter the swing high and low, choose the trend direction, and add the current price to see which level it is nearest.
| Level | Price | Pips from swing end | Use |
|---|
Retracements are measured back from the end of the swing (the high in an uptrend, the low in a downtrend). Extensions project the full swing beyond its end as profit targets. Educational tool only.
How the Levels Are Calculated
Take the size of the swing, range = swing high − swing low, then:
| Uptrend (pullback down from the high) | Downtrend (rally up from the low) | |
|---|---|---|
| Retracement level r | High − range × r | Low + range × r |
| Extension level e | Low + range × e | High − range × e |
Worked Example: EUR/USD Uptrend
EUR/USD rallies from a swing low at 1.0800 to a swing high at 1.1000, a 200-pip move. The calculator gives:
| Level | Price | How traders use it |
|---|---|---|
| 38.2% | 1.0924 | Shallow pullback in a strong trend |
| 50% | 1.0900 | Half-way point, also a round number here |
| 61.8% | 1.0876 | The most watched entry zone |
| 78.6% | 1.0843 | Last line before the uptrend is in doubt |
| 127.2% extension | 1.1054 | First profit target above the old high |
| 161.8% extension | 1.1124 | Main profit target |
A typical plan: wait for price to pull back into the 50%–61.8% zone, enter on a bullish rejection candle, place the stop below the 78.6% level, and take profit at the 127.2% and 161.8% extensions. Size the position from that stop with the position size calculator.
Choosing the Right Swing
- Use a clear impulse move that stands out on the chart, not every small wiggle.
- Measure from wick to wick (the extreme high and low) unless you consistently use candle bodies.
- Prefer swings on the 4-hour or daily chart; levels from tiny M5 swings are watched by few traders.
- Look for confluence: a Fibonacci level that lines up with support, a round number or a pivot point is much stronger than a level on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most important Fibonacci level?
The 61.8% retracement, derived from the golden ratio, is the most widely watched pullback level, with 38.2% and 50% close behind.
What is the difference between retracements and extensions?
Retracements (below 100%) show where a pullback inside the swing may stop. Extensions (above 100%) project beyond the end of the swing and are used as profit targets.
Is 50% a Fibonacci ratio?
No. It is the half-way point of the move, included because so many traders watch it.
