Read moreIndicators are formulas applied to price and volume. They do not predict the future, but they make trend, momentum and volatility easier to see. Most indicators fit into one of four families, and one tool from each family is usually enough.
Use one trend tool to choose direction (for example a 50-period moving average), one momentum tool to time the entry (RSI or CCI), and the ATR to place the stop. Adding a fourth or fifth indicator that measures the same thing rarely improves results; it mostly creates conflicting signals.
No indicator is accurate on its own in every market. Trend tools work in trends and fail in ranges; oscillators do the opposite. Accuracy comes from matching the tool to the market condition and testing it.
Standard indicators such as RSI, MACD and moving averages do not change past values once a candle closes. Some custom indicators do repaint; test any download on a demo account and watch closed candles.
